Old Boys worth creditable draw at Holker

Holker Old Boys 1-1 Leek CSOB

LEEK CSOB’s long journey to Holker in Cumbria was not in vain as the Old Boys brought home a point after a very hard fought encounter.

The visitors fielded new signing Daryl Wilkes in midfield alongside Dean Owen, who had an excellent game.

Holker attacked from the off and the Old Boys were forced to defend, and defend they did.

The home side forced two corners but the Old Boys were up to the task, and half-time arrived with the scoreline blank.

The second half started with several Old Boys attacks but it was the home side who opened the scoring in the 53nd minute when Dawson scored with an excellent goal.

His shot from distance was excellently directed into the top right corner, giving Hackney little chance.

Holker were lifted and had a spell of 10 minutes where they forced the issue.

Reaney started to see more of the ball, and Edwards led the Holker right-back Smith a merry dance, and his crosses were wasted by an absent Tarr.

Dunn came on for for Machin in 68th minute to give some height up front, and the Old Boys came more into the game after the intial shock of the home side’s goal.

Dunn had an effort saved and Owen lifted a free-kick over the bar.

Dunn and Drummond and Edwards combined to force a corner but Warrington headed clear.

Flood probed and assisted down the right and combined with Greene, and that led to Owen’s drive being partially saved. Dunn contested the loose ball and it rebounded out to the penalty spot where Reaney drove home low and hard for the deserved Old Boys equaliser in the 82nd minute.

After this both sides could have had further goals but it was not tobe.
