Old Boys let it slip

Leek CSOB 2-0 Oldham Borough

SECOND-BOTTOM Oldham Borough visited Harrison Park on Saturday, but their performance was not of a team in such a lowly position as they held Leek csob to a draw.

The game was end to end, with both sides creating opportunities, and goalkeeping at both ends kept the scoresheet blank.

The Old Boys scored after 21 minutes when Tarr received a ball from Wilkes, and from the edge of the area, Tarr's shot hit the inside of the Borough goal, sped across the goal line, and hit the opposite post after going behind the line.

Just before half-time, Edwards made a penetrating run down the right flank, cut into the Borough penalty area and was upended by Smith and the referee awarded the Old Boys a penalty.

Tarr took the kick and rifled it into the roof of the net to give the Old Boys a two-goal advantage at the break.

The second half saw Oldham attack from the off and in the 50th minute they won a corner.

Philbin rose to meet it and the ball went into the net via his shoulder.

Tom Hughes scored for Oldham in the 75th minute only for the effort to be ruled offside, and Hughes' mouthful to the referee resulted in him being sent off.

Byrne, Greene, and Reaney had chances but Oldham drew level when Roscoe equalised for the visitors in the 77th minute.

There was some unnecessary panic in the Old Boys defence during the last 15 minutes, although the play was very open and end to end.

The visitors deserved their point and in the end it was a fair result and an entertaining game.

Next Saturday, the Old Boys are without a game, but on Tuesday, March 16, they have a top-of-the-table clash with Stone Dominoes at Harrison Park, kick-off 7.45pm.
