Dyers into semi-final

DYERS Arms FC won their way into the semi finals of the CONGLETON & DISTRICT CUP in spectacular fashion on Sunday morning when they thrashed a disorganised Black Lion side 11-0 in an all-Leek tie at Cheddleton.

Dyers were three up at half-time when Ed Roden gave them the lead, and added another after Steve Plant had made it two.

The second half was a disaster for Black Lion as Roden scored three more to finish with five.

Planet added another, Adam Newman hit a hat-trick, and Andy Bloor and James Heath also joined in the goals.

AC Bird in Hand reached the semi finals of the JW HOWSON CUP when they won 3-2 away at Wetton after extra time.

Wetton got off to a flying start when Alex Lilburn scored after five minutes, and Adam Gilman added a second five minutes later.

But Bird in Hand took over after the break, and came back with a Mike McCue goal 10 minutes into the second half, and Sam Fower levelled the tie six minutes later. Wayne Tunnicliffe got the winner at the end of the first period of extra time.

Blue Mugge issued notice to the chasing pack at the top of the PREMIER DIVISION when they gave Powys Arms a 8-0 hiding at Westwood in only their second league match of a year so far spent chasing cups with great success.

Jimmy McCarthy, Matt Haddrell, Tim Sanders, and Martin Baker scored firsthalf goals, with Haddrell and Sanders adding another each, and Baker getting two more for his hat-trick.

Abbey Inn move up to second after a 4-1 success away to AFC Dyers Arms at The Hockey Club. Nick Cooke on 20 minutes, and Lee Fower on the half hour gave them a comfortable half time lead, and Richard Hambleton added a third on the hour. Iain Wood pulled a goal back for Dyers a few minutes later, but Oliver Mellor wrapped things up on 76 minutes.

Mucky Duck and Durham Ox played the first match of the PORTERS CLEANERS SHIELD at Birchall, with Mucky Duck going through to the second round with a 2-1 victory.

AFC Valiant failed to go top of DIVISION ONE when they suffered a surprise 4-3 defeat at the hands of Horseshoe Inn at Birchall, as Rob Needham was the hero with a hat-trick.

He gave Horseshoe the lead after 15 minutes, and scored twice more in the first half after Ben Venables had pulled a goal back for AFC Valiant.

Andy Storer extended the lead five minutes afyer the interval for a seemingly unassailable lead. But Valiant had orther ideas, and Venables scored again on the hour, and Nick Malkin grabbed a third to give Horseshoe a very uncomfortable last 15 minutes.

Another surprise was Waterhouses failure to move up to third when bottom side Wellington beat them 3-2 at home.

Richard Weaver gave them a dream start, but Chris Statham and Reece Merritt gave Welly the lead at half-time.

James Car began the second half for Waterhouses with an equaliser, but old head Jason Bould hit the winner.
