Ball Haye Green 4-1 Eccleshall
SATURDAY'S visit from the Premier Division’s basement side Eccleshall provided Green with the perfect opportunity to register a much needed win to help restore some confidence.
The return of Paul Callear and Adam Sawyer provided Green with greater balance in midfield and the decision to name them amongst the starting line up was vindicated when the home side took a deserved lead after only five minutes.
Patient build-up play ended with Gary Gibson being crudely upended in the Eccleshall area and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty.
Leading marksmen Martin Baker took responsibility for the dead ball kick and confidently stroked the ball into the bottom corner.
Green continued to play the better football, but it wasn’t until 30th minute that they found the breathing space of a second goal when they were awarded a second penalty following a mistimed tackle on Godfrey Johnson.
Baker once again stepped up to the spot and sent Holmes the wrong way.
In the 65th minute that they made the result practically safe with a third goal as Jamie Pointon’s well measured cross from the right flank hit Nath Dyer and the ball diverted past his own keeper.
The visitors gave themselves some hope of an unlikely fight back when they reduced the deficit through Nick Parton, but Parton completed the scoring to secure a comfortable win.
