ON SATURDAY, March 6, 2010, starting at around 8pm, the Veteran’s Stock Car Association is again staging the 18th Annual Northern Stock Car Reunion, an event which is an established part of the stock car racing national social calendar.
As you know from past letters I’ve sent in, we are always trying to contact as many drivers past and present, families, friends, mechanics, helpers, supporters and track officials as we can, in order to make each annual reunion even better than the previous one.
All our previous events have been very well supported with around 100 people enjoying a cracking night out! There must still be many more out there who haven’t yet been to, or heard about, our reunions and maybe we could reach some of those, too, via your newspaper, as there were a number of stock car drivers and supporters in your area.
We would recommend our reunions to anyone who has ever been into stock car racing. Most of the sport’s former top northern stars have attended at some time or other. It’s a chance to renew old acquaintances in the friendliest of atmospheres, watch some of professional cameraman Ray Liddy’s archive film which goes back to the 1970s and generally have a great night out. And it’s free! Refreshments are available, there’s a quiz with prizes for the winning team and the team scoring least (the winners set the questions for the following year), a free draw for a bottle of whisky, a raffle, a fundraising card and memorabilia displays.
The event, as always, will be held at the Boarshurst Band Club, Greenbridge Lane, Greenfield, near Oldham. (note that the entrance is at the rear of the club).
