Makeover brings venue from ye olde to the new

THE OWNERS of a Cotton pub and restaurant are putting the final touches to a £30,000 redevelopment of their freehouse premises.

Ye Olde StarJane and Sarah Pickles - mother and daughter respectively - who run Ye Olde Star Inn, in Star Bank, shut their pub for a month, between November and December, to refurbish it in preparation for the typically busy season when nearby Alton  Towers reopens on February 13.
The co-owners who have run the pub for four years, did a lot of the work themselves as well as using nearby tradesmen.
Daughter Ms Pickles said she was glad that they have both finally been able to put their ‘own stamp’ on Ye Olde Star Inn.
She said:  “We only have one person who preferred it how it was; every one else loves it. We’ve completely changed the restaurant, the bar and the fireplaces are all new.”
Originally from Blackpool, the owners used to run a fish and chip shop and decided one day to look for a pub in  the country.
Since they made the big move, the pub has built-up a familiar group of regulars, who they were keen to listen to when re-designing the menu.
The pub offers a wide-range of menu choices, ranging from light bites to larger mains. The Pickles only uses food from local suppliers and they change the menu regularly to suit the seasons, and take pride in their eclectic specials board.
She said: “We’re always busy on Sunday with the Sunday lunches, but it is hard to say what are most popular dishes are, but the pies sell very well and they are all completely homemade.”
Bookings are being taken at The Star Inn now for Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day. For more information call 01538 702489.
