Early signs good as new store injects some glitz

A BORN and bred Leekensian is plotting to add a touch of glitz and glamour to the town after opening a new fashion shop.

Colleen SavageColleen Savage, 40, opened Colleen’s for business on Saturday and the entrepreneur is already looking for new stock after a busy few days.

She said: “It’s been really, really good. I’ve been really busy and that is without any advertising, we’ve just been picking up business by word of mouth and I’m already having to get more stock.”
Mrs Savage was already working in the St Edward Street premises before the shop opened.

Her husband, Michael, operates his building company in the same unit, where Mrs Savage helped out with administration work.

Just over a month ago, Mrs Savage had a ‘light bulb’ moment and decided she could make better use of the shop unit.

She said: “We already had the premises as office space, so one day I just decided to do something else with the space.” Despite being Mrs Savage’s first shop, she said was not fazed or worried about getting it all organised.

She said: “I turned 40 last year, so nothing is fazing me now.”
Most of the clothes on sale at Colleen’s are sourced from Manchester and London. Mr and Mrs Savage also spend a lot of time on the Internet looking for the latest in cutting-edge fashion.

Daughters Abi, 13, and Amy, 14, help their parents to decide what to buy as much of the stock is aimed at teenagers and young females, although some outfits, such as knitwear, are also suitable for older ladies.

Currently, Mrs Savage is sole employee, but all being well she hopes to start looking for some part-time staff after Christmas.

Colleen’s is open Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 5pm, with late night opening until 7pm on Fridays in the run-up to Christmas.
